About The Blepharoplasty Procedure
Blepharoplasty is facial cosmetic plastic surgery performed to remove excess skin, muscle, and fat around your eyelids. Blepharoplasty surgery can both improve the appearance and the function of your eyes. As you age, the muscles supporting your eyelids weaken, allowing fat to collect above and below your eyelids. The accompanying sagging often causes impaired vision. By treating your droopy upper lids and bags beneath your eyes the plastic surgeon may additionally be able to help eliminate the vision problems caused by aging eyelid skin.
Eyelid surgery is typically performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia or general anesthesia. Depending on whether Dr. Harrison Lee will treat your upper, lower, or both eyelids, the procedure may take anywhere from one to three hours.
If you have surgery on both eyelids the surgeon will usually start with the upper eyelid. He will make an incision along the natural fold of your upper eyelid in order to remove excess muscle and fat beneath the skin.
For the lower eyelid, the facial plastic surgeon will make an incision just below the lashes in your eye’s natural crease or inside the lower eyelid. Excess fat, muscle, and sagging skin are then removed to reduce the appearance of bags under the eyes.
Blepharoplasty can also be performed on Asian eyelids to create a better-defined crease; which is better know as Asian double fold eyelid surgery.
